Series Introduction: Legacy in Blue

Three years ago, just before NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), I had a series idea pop into my head. Of course I couldn’t just start off easy with one book…One quickly became six. I’d already written a couple of books under my young adult pen name (Katy Raemore; https://katyraemore.com), so I wanted to try writing a contemporary romance for the adult crowd.

Over the years I had read multiple series that used the same idea. A family saga of novels that were interconnected standalones. I just loved how you could follow along and learn more about the initial couple through the future books that were written about either their family or friends.

They’re almost like extended epilogues.

So when Viola King popped into existence along with the rest of her family, I just had to write her story. One of my favourite tropes is brother’s best friend or best friend’s sister, so that seemed like a fitting first trope. I also have a bit of a thing for men in uniform, so why not write about that? I wanted this book series to have some men (and maybe some women) in uniform, intertwined family dynamics, and love that doesn’t always come easily.

The series, I named Legacy in Blue, will follow the descendants of Richard Malcolm King, the Chief of Police. As with series like this, it is best if you read them in order. These books are all written to be standalone, but they are part of a larger family saga. There might be some shared scenes across the first three books because they all share the same timeline.

At this time there are six books total planned for the series, however, if there is enough interest, I could be persuaded to write more. After all, who doesn’t want to know what happens in the next generation?

I have a few warnings about the content of these books.

This series may contain triggers. The subjects contained within the series might discuss topics like bullying, spousal abuse, alcohol or drug addiction, rape, human trafficking, murder, and things that go with being involved with law enforcement. Not all of the books contain the same triggers, so I have created a page on my website for those who are concerned about specific ones.

The more complete list of triggers can be found on my website under “Trigger Warnings”. A bit of a forewarning that the triggers listed could be also considered a bit of a spoiler for the plot.

Please see below for the blurbs of the first two books and the titles of the last four. I’ve also included the trope of each book and who the main character from the King family is.

Book 1 – Badge Bunny (Viola King) – AVAILABLE NOW

Trope: Brother’s Best Friend / Surprise Pregnancy

Viola King’s birth has never been a day for celebration.

She vows this year will be different.

First up on the list: Lose her virginity before graduation.

She’s always had a thing for guys in uniforms, so she why not go to a bar frequented by cops? She soon meets a man in a uniform guaranteed to give her the one night stand she seeks.

Mike Sinclair is just looking for a badge bunny for his usual night of casual sex. Except, his latest conquest definitely isn’t a bunny at all and is gone before he can explore things further.

Maybe he shouldn’t have given her a fake name.

What about when all her best-laid plans go out the window, and she ends up at his door with nowhere to turn?

What happens when he learns she’s the youngest sister of his best friend and partner?

Reed:

Thanks to my lying, cheating, disappearing ex-fiancée, I had completely given up on relationships, until her.

When I saw her, I knew had to have her. So I did, but then she disappeared into the night.

The next time I saw her, she wasn’t alone, and he had my eyes.

But something wasn’t right.

Running from a haunted past, she ghosted me again, leaving too many unanswered questions.

Then the next time I saw her, she’s no longer single.

Yet something tells me she’d rather be.

Kalista:

The first time I met him, we had sex.

I was supposed to be there to tell him the truth.

Just when I thought our lives had turned around, everything went sideways and we were back where we started again.

How could I admit all my shortcomings and risk everything?

He was the light in my darkness.
