November 2022 – Status Update

I’ve accepted the fact that the NaNoWriMo challenge is just not happening for me this year. Every year since 2015, I’ve taken part in the National Novel Writing Month Challenge. It’s given me the motivation to write new books (Badge Bunny), finish up books that are delayed (Back Up) and work on books that are yet to be published.

It was a difficult decision for me to make.

Just to let it go.

After spending the majority of October packing and the first part of November moving and getting partially settled, I know it’s just not going to happen.

702 words does not a book make!

Despite my anxiety over not taking part in Nano, I’m feeling good about the move. Khaos is enjoying his new home and we’ve spent 5 nights here now. The only thing I’m having a hard time getting used to is the quiet! It is sooo quiet here! Don’t get me wrong, I like it…but I keep trying to figure out what the noises are…especially when they happen in the middle of the night and wake me up. I mean, in the city I could sleep through sirens, garbage trucks, noisy neighbours, and now I wake up because the heating kicks in…LOL..

This weekend was aimed at setting up my office. I’ve got the floor cleaned, and all the bookshelves in place. Still have to unbox all the books for the shelves, but that will have to wait because right now it’s a game of musical chairs with boxes waiting to be unpacked. I keep moving them from one room to the next as I get things set up.

Cause, let’s face it, without the bookshelves, I can’t unbox the books. Without my desk being set up, I can’t unbox the monitors and other peripherals. Without the furniture being organized, I have no place for my printer, or the paper for it. No places for the horrendous amounts of pens, markers, pencils and erasers that I’ve amassed because “I needed that colour” or “This one is perfect for that”.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I was one of those students who LOVED shopping for back to school items. When I got older, it was stationary at work.

I know all the writers out there are nodding their heads right now.

The scent of a new book – paperback, hard cover or text book…I don’t know why, but it gets me every time…

Now I can’t wait to get back to organizing my office so I can maybe add a couple more paperbacks to my collection.

Happy Reading!
