A Visit Home
For those of you who don’t know, I grew up in a small town in southern Saskatchewan.
Recently, I went home for Easter and stayed for a couple weeks. It was only supposed to be for one, but I went early because there was supposed to be a massive snow storm and I didn’t want to get stuck on the road in bad weather.
Guess what? Barely any snow…yeah…
I went there with my huge furbaby Khaos. He absolutely LOVES to visit grandma and auntie. He especially loves to leave his Great Dane Glitter everywhere…it’s the gift that keeps on giving even months from the time of his visit. Oh and auntie’s slippers, he just loves sneaking into her room and stealing them, and then he shoves them so far back in his mouth that he looks normal.
Except for the fact that we didn’t know he was up to no good until he took off through the house like the hounds of hell were chasing him.
My visit went by way too fast and I didn’t get to see everyone I wanted to see because I was working (not writing) while I was there and a couple of the days were twelve hours, which meant I wasn’t in the mood to be very social.
Things I grew up with are what I take for granted now. For example, I can’t even remember the last power outage I had at my apartment in the city. So when I heard there was going to be a snow storm all I could think was “how will I get my work done?”
Except that wasn’t the highest item on my list.
I’ve definitely taken the internet speeds in the city for granted.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m from an era of no internet or cell phones. I was in high school when we first had internet at school. I was nineteen when I got my first cell. This past week the hotspot on my cell phone had faster internet speeds than the modem at my mom’s house.
Now for the BEST part of small town life. The part that I greatly miss here in the city and have noticed more since I’ve been stuck working from my apartment for the last two years. The friends I grew up with that are still there, are amazing! They are super supportive of my creations and when I come to visit we can easily pick up where we left off, even though I don’t get home often enough.
